Summary

Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. is a supermarket chain with over 100 stores operating across seven states in the US. Their existing Wegmans mobile application came out with an update (versions 8.0.0, 8.0.1) in January 2020 and received some voiced frustrations about some of the changes. We worked with Wegmans’ Customer Feedback Project Manager in this usability study to determine usability issues of the in-store shopping list feature. Through an in-depth heuristic evaluation and conducting usability tests with 6 participants, we were able to provide design and functionality recommendations for improving the user experience for the in-store shopping list feature of the mobile app.

Timeline: February 2020 - May 2020

Milestones: client kickoff meeting → conduct heuristic evaluation →  narrow down research objectives → draft and finalize test plan, methodology, and materials → conduct pilot test → modify test plan (based on pilot test and COVID-19 pandemic) → conduct usability tests → analyze and organize findings → present findings

Deliverables: Heuristic Evaluation Report, Test Plan, Test Materials, Findings presentation (confidential)
